How to fix your painful foot
Do you get pain in your toes and the balls of your feet?
It could be a condition called Morton’s neuroma. This is where a nerve in your foot is irritated or damaged.
It usually affects your foot between your 3rd and 4th toes.
The main symptoms of Morton’s neuroma include:
- a shooting, stabbing or burning pain
- feeling like a small stone is stuck under your foot
Some people may also have tingling or numbness in their foot. The symptoms may be worse when you move your foot or wear tight or high-heeled shoes. Flat feet can also be a cause along with lifestyle activities such as running or high impact sports. It often gets worse over time.
to help reduce symptoms and treat Morton’s Neuroma, you can do these things:
- rest and raise your foot when you can
- hold an ice pack (or bag of frozen peas) in a towel on the painful area for up to 20 minutes every few hours
- take ibuprofen or paracetamol
- wear wide, comfortable shoes with a low heel and soft sole
- use soft insoles or pads you put in your shoes – look for Metatarsal pads
If symptoms persist and worsen, and the above guidance does not have an effect, please consult a Podiatrist as more treatment options are available.
